How long have you been publishing with Limitless? What titles have you published with them? Have you self-published any titles or published with another publisher? Please give details.

loving liam cover (1)I was signed in late July of 2015, with my first book being released in October. I will currently have three titles available, but a fourth is being edited.

That’s great. Can you tell us a little bit about your books — what genre you write, if you write a series, any upcoming releases or your current work-in-progress. If you have an upcoming release, please specify the release date.

I write sweet contemporary romances, but I am currently working on something quite different, a supernatural romance. I just completed the fourth book in the Cloverleaf Series, I do have plans for future books. My next release is April 5th for book 3, Patrick’s Promise.

They all sound great including the supernatural romance. My first self-published book was a paranormal romance. It was quite different from my Cobble Cove books, as well. It’s great to be able to branch out and offer some variety within a genre.

How would you describe your goals as a writer. What do you hope to achieve in the next few years? What are you planning to do to reach these goals?

My hopes are that I will be able to reach a lot of readers and that they enjoy what I write. I am not looking for fame or fortune, though I wouldn’t mind either. My main ambition is to be taken seriously as an author and to make readers happy.

Those are very worthy goals for all authors. I wish you luck achieving them. I think you already have a great start toward them.

Maggies Marriage FrontWhat type of reader are you hoping to attract?  Who do you believe would be most interested in reading your books?

I want to attract readers of sweet romance for this line, mainly women who are fans of authors like, Debbie Macomber, Nora Roberts, etc. However, my next story will be a little more available to a wider range of readers, those who love romance, paranormal, supernatural, and native tales.

I’m a big fan of Nora Roberts. I like both her standalones and JD Robb mysteries. She and Debbie Macomber are very popular at my library. Your supernatural book should also have a large audience.

What advice would you give other authors or those still trying to get published?

PatricksPromise_ecoverWhen it comes to publishing, be prepared to hold your breath, for like almost three months, and don’t be discouraged when you don’t hear back right away, just keep trying, keep honing your craft, because it should be more about loving to write, not just getting published.

My advice for surviving in the literary community is simple, respect other authors or those that are practicing the same art you are. They are the most important support system, especially in the online world.

My last bit of advice, if you are a writer, you will write, because that is what a writer does. You don’t need someone to validate your love for it. Just do it. Just write.

Very good advice and all of it so true.

What hobbies and interests do you have besides writing?

I love reading, watching movies, and spending time with my family.

Nice ways to unwind.

What do you like most and least about being an author? What is your toughest challenge?

I love creating, the whole plotting and constructing part, that’s the best. Interacting with readers and other authors is also incredible and I enjoy it a great deal. My least favorite thing about being an author would have to be author ranking, it just drives me crazy. I hate the worry that goes into wondering if I’m doing well or not. So that is also my challenge, not letting it take the wind out of my sails, or keeping me from writing.

I think it’s only natural to be concerned with ranking, but what’s more important is the fan base you are building. You seem to be a people person, so that will really help.

Do you know today’s spotlight author Kellie Riek?

authorspotlight Welcome to the Limitless Library Lounge where I interview fellow authors from Limitless Publishing. Today, I am chatting with Kellie Riek from Sydney, NSW, Australia

f84129ab0d7961d9a2a092bc511449e2

authorspotlightThanks for joining me, Kellie.  Please have a seat and make yourself comfortable.

How long have you been publishing with Limitless? What titles have you published with them? Have you self-published any titles or published with another publisher? Please give details.

I’m new to Limitless. My first book with them is Rogue Agent which is being released today, March 15th.

rogue agent coverHow exciting. Can you tell us a little bit about the book — what genre you write, if you write a series, any upcoming releases or your current work-in-progress.

I write a range of genres from fantasy, crime, thriller and historical fiction. I’m not a big series writer, so I tend to stick to standalone books. If a book goes well, then I may consider writing a sequel.

Rogue Agent is a thriller/sci fi. It will be out by Limitless Publishing today, March 15th. Inspired by great thriller/crime novels, I hope it will be a success. I loved writing it and creating my characters whom I hope readers will love. Its a cross from a thriller/adventure/romance.

The book sounds incredible. I absolutely love the cover, and I’m eager to read it. I also thought I preferred writing standalones but after I wrote A Stone’s Throw,” I felt like it needed a sequel which I just submitted to Limitless and am already planning the third. So you never know. I still intend to write other standalones, but I’m enjoying my Cobble Cove books for now.

Describe your goals as a writer. What do you hope to achieve in the next few years? What are you planning to do to reach these goals?

My goal as a writer is simple. I wish for success. Whether that is getting an agent and getting a big 6 contract or my books selling very well on Amazon. I don’t want be to “famous” but well known. My aim for my next WIP is to get an agent.

I wish you luck with that.

What type of reader are you hoping to attract? Who do you believe would be most interested in reading your books?

My books market to the large audience but they are niche. I write historical fiction mostly and it doesn’t have a huge market like YA or romance so I have to be selective on how I market my book. I just want my readers to enjoy my stories. I try and put a little bit of everything into a book to make it interesting.

Very nice. What advice would you give other authors or those still trying to get published?

Don’t stop writing. Each time you write a book you get better at it. Don’t stop!

I hear that time and again from every author, and I agree completely.

What particular challenges and struggles did you face before first becoming published?

Rejection is a normal part of any author’s career. It hurts but its necessary to improve your craft. But doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. Just don’t take it personal.

Yes, that applies to both submissions and reviews. You’re right that it’s absolutely a part of an author’s career.

Have you taken any writing or publishing classes? If so, please provide information about them and if you feel they helped you further your professional skills.

I am all self taught 🙂 I have certificates in professional writing, but not creative writing.

I see. What hobbies and interests do you have besides writing?

I love to draw, game and go for walks. I try to keep my mind active. It’s very important for an author.

Absolutely. I’ve found that walking is so relaxing and gets the gears going for writing because it clears your mind. Drawing is a wonderfully creative and relaxing hobby, as well.

What do you like most and least about being an author? What is your toughest challenge?

What I love most is hearing from readers. Its the best kind of feedback. You write and publish so others can read your work. What I dislike most is not having enough time in the day to write!

I love hearing from readers, also. It really makes your day. Time is always the issue with writing, but you have to schedule it and try to do it daily even if it’s for a short period.

DM 3D

Dating Maggie is my debut contemporary romance. It was released in October 2015 by Limitless Publishing. Dating Maggie is the first novel I had written and was thrilled when I was offered a contract from Limitless.

How exciting. Can you tell us a little bit about your books — what genre you write, if you write a series, any upcoming releases or your current work-in-progress.

In Dating Maggie, a struggling actress and dating vlogger meets a hot out-of-town rancher and he threatens to turn her five year plan upside down. Maggie lives in LA and Cliff lives in Oregon on his ranch. Geography and other love interests may keep them apart or they may find their way back to each other.

Sarah’s Second Chance is a women’s fiction/romantic mystery that I recently finished. Sarah is a grieving widow with a young son. After her husband dies mysteriously she will not give up trying to prove it was murder, not suicide. At the donut shop where she’s taken a job to make ends meet, she encounters Greyson. He’s a handsome black PI who helps Sarah find answers and hope. This story has recently been sent to publishers for consideration and I’m crossing my fingers and hoping to hear some good news soon.

That sounds great. Good luck with your second book.  Would you describe your goals as a writer to us. What do you hope to achieve in the next few years? What are you planning to do to reach these goals?

I like to think about one project at a time. If I think too far ahead, it overwhelms me. My broad goal as a writer is to entertain with humor and heart. I like to read feel good stories and I like to write them too. I keep a journal of all of my ideas and go back and see what really pulls at me and start writing an outline or a scene to see where things go.

I am currently talking with a writer friend about a novel we’d like to co-write. I’ve never co-written a novel but it sounds both exciting and scary. We are considering a contemporary romance or romantic suspense and may plot out a series. It’s still in the planning stages, so we’ll see what happens.

Nice plans. I know what you mean about becoming overwhelmed. It’s less stressful to deal with one project at a time.

What type of reader are you hoping to attract?  Who do you believe would be most interested in reading your books?

I imagine women who enjoy realistic, emotional characters and stories with a bit of humor are my target demographic.

That sounds like a wide audience.

What advice would you give other authors or those still trying to get published?

Don’t give up. Rejection stings but tenacity pays off eventually. Twitter contests are great. Writing and the road to publication can be lonely. Getting a support system of beta readers and cheerleaders has really helped me.

I agree with all of that.

What hobbies and interests do you have besides writing?

I enjoy baking, walks, reading and catching up with my gal pals.

Fun activities.

What do you like most and least about being an author? What is your toughest challenge?

At the moment, figuring out how to market my book without irritating people has been a challenge. Getting lost in a story and the feeling of creative accomplishment are the things I enjoy most about writing. Also, this probably sounds silly…but if I re-read a passage I’ve written and it makes me laugh, that’s probably the greatest thrill for me.

I like those answers. Marketing without annoying people with a hard sell is often a challenge for authors. I’ve laughed at my own writing too and also really enjoyed those “aha” moments when my character does something I don’t even expect or I add a twist that I’d never planned.

authorspotlight Welcome to the Limitless Library Lounge where I interview fellow authors from Limitless Publishing. Today, I am chatting with Alisha Vincent (pen name A. L. Vincent) from Lafayette, Louisiana.

ALVinent

authorspotlightThanks for joining me, Alisha.  Please have a seat and make yourself comfortable.

How long have you been publishing with Limitless? What titles have you published with them? Have you self-published any titles or published with another publisher? Please give details.

tangledupinyouI signed my contract with Limitless in August of 2015. Tangled up in You is my first published book.

How exciting. Can you tell us a little bit about your books — what genre you write, if you write a series, any upcoming releases or your current work-in-progress.

I write romance. What I consider reality romance. It’s characters that face real life situations like an alcoholic husband and issues like soldiers coming back with PTSD. My current WIP is about a tough young woman dealing with the after effects of being roofied by the lead singer in the band in which she is a member. She, like the character in my first novel, comes home to the safety of her friends and family to find peace and healing.

Interesting. Would you describe your goals as a writer to us. What do you hope to achieve in the next few years? What are you planning to do to reach these goals?

I want to keep writing. Eventually, I want to be able to write full-time. In the next few years, I’m hoping to add more titles to the Fleur de Lis series. I’m also planning a Paranormal series set in a haunted hotel in New Orleans.

Oooh, that sounds really good. What type of reader are you hoping to attract?  Who do you believe would be most interested in reading your books?

I’m hoping to attract readers that are interested in uplifting stories about people who overcome obstacles and find what they’re looking for.

I’m sure there is a big audience for that topic.

What advice would you give other authors or those still trying to get published?

KEEP WRITING!!! KEEP TRYING!!! J Join Facebook critique groups. Get your work out there, seen, edited, and keep going.

Excellent advice.

What particular challenges and struggles did you face before first becoming published?

Writing a novel is hard! I found so many things challenging, like pacing, timelines, and getting the right words down on paper to get my idea across.

That is so true. I don’t think people know what it’s like to write a novel until they do it. And, even after you’re published, it doesn’t get easier because then you have to sell your work.

What hobbies and interests do you have besides writing?

Cooking, traveling, reading, live music, and all things South Louisiana.

I’m sure all of that keeps you busy when you aren’t writing.

What do you like most and least about being an author? What is your toughest challenge?

I love being able to make stories come alive. What I like least? Editing. Lol. I wish my words would just come out like they’re supposed to!

Editing certainly is a challenge to all authors.

What I’m Up To

debbieIn lieu of my usual Feature Friday, I’m taking a brief break to update you about A STONE’S THROW and its sequel that is almost ready for submission as well as share with you some other projects I have on the burner.

Today, March 4th, is the first meeting of the new writer’s club I’m starting at my public library. I’ve had men and women of all ages express an interest, and I’m excited about participating and sharing with both unpublished writers and those like myself who are published but still new to the field. Our group will initially meet on the first Friday of each month. I’ve prepared a questionnaire to determine the experience and interests of those who join. I know the value of a writing community, and it’s wonderful to be able to offer this type of benefit at the library where I work.

Ruff DraftsNewsletterThe first Ruff Drafts newsletter was sent out on March 1st with the opportunity for a lucky subscriber to win a free, autographed book or a $10 Amazon gift certificate. The contest is still open. To subscribe, you simply fill out the pop-up form that opens when you visit my WordPress site and then confirm the email you receive from MailChimp. Alternately, you can contact me with your email, and I can add you to the list.

Unlike this blog, the newsletter will contain only information about my writing. Subscribers will be informed of the latest news about my books, be sent exclusive content, and be eligible for special offers and giveaways. The newsletter is an attempt to help grow my fan base, so I hope all of you who read this blog will consider subscribing.

Next month, I’ll be speaking and signing copies of A STONE’S THROW at my local Barnes and Noble bookstore. Several of my co-workers and patrons as well as family members and friends will be attending. The event will be advertised online and in the store.

masendiesinnyWhat else am I up to? Besides adding the final research and revisions to the sequel to A STONE’S THROW that I hope to publish some time this summer. I will also be signing books at MASE at Foxwoods Casino in June and at INDIES IN NY in August. Tickets are already on sale for both events. Further details and any specials I’ll be offering at these events will be listed in an upcoming newsletter.

A STONE’S THROW continues to be on reserve at my library, and several people have been kind enough to purchase a copy to support my writing. Other libraries as well as Barnes and Noble have begun stocking it. If you request it at your local library or bookstore, they can order it through Amazon or Ingram.

reviews

For those who have already read the first book, reviews are very helpful to a new author. They don’t have to be complicated or long. Reviews can be submitted to Amazon, Goodreads, and/or barnesandnoble.com.

I hope this update has answered some of your questions about what I’m up to now and will be working toward in the the next few months. If you have any others, please comment.

Author Spotlight Lilly James

authorspotlight Welcome to the Limitless Library Lounge where I interview fellow authors from Limitless Publishing. Today, I am chatting with Lilly James from
Victoria, Australia near Ballarat.

lillyjames

authorspotlightThanks for joining me, Lilly.  Please have a seat and make yourself comfortable.

How long have you been publishing with Limitless? What titles have you published with them? Have you self-published any titles or published with another publisher? Please give details.

Denying Mr Parks 3Dlillyjamesauthorspotlightphoto1I have been publishing with Limitless just over a year. I have published Denying Mr. Parks, Addicted to Mr. Parks, and today, Lost in Mr. Parks.

How exciting. Can you tell us a little bit about your books — what genre you write, if you write a series, any upcoming releases or your current work-in-progress.

lostinmrparks

The genre for my recent series is erotica. The third and final installment of that series is Lost in Mr. Parks, and it is available today, March 1, 2016. I am also working on a couple of standalones, but they will be N/A. I am extremely excited about my upcoming projects!

Congratulations! Would you describe your goals as a writer to us. What do you hope to achieve in the next few years? What are you planning to do to reach these goals?

My goal is to connect with readers. I want readers to be able to sit back and enjoy my books, connect and relate to my characters. Laugh and cry along with them. There is nothing more enjoyable than a great book. Well, there is, but that’s a whole different subject!

I am planning on writing more stories that reader’s fall in love with.

Lol. Got ya. What type of reader are you hoping to attract?  Who do you believe would be most interested in reading your books?

I want to attract a mix of readers. Of course my books are full of romance, with a splash of sexiness–ok, a LOT of sexiness–and are typically aimed at romance readers, and erotica comes with an age warning, but in the future, I’d love to cater for all readers.

Erotica is a popular genre today, so I’m sure you will attract a lot of readers. It’s good to expand your reach but equally important to write what you enjoy.

What advice would you give other authors or those still trying to get published?

Just write your heart out. I know it’s hard if you ever get that dreaded rejection letter from an agent or publisher, but don’t let it get you down. Chances are, you were the 100th person that week they turned down. You are not alone. Don’t ever give up.

Absolutely true. I hear that all the time from authors, and I believe it myself. You have to be stubborn. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and all.

What hobbies and interests do you have besides writing?

I am going to sound really boring, because I don’t really have a hobby. I read, is that a hobby?

Absolutely. It’s one of my few hobbies, as well. I also enjoy walking and spending time with my cats. I guess those aren’t the most exciting hobbies either, but I enjoy them.

What do you like most and least about being an author? What is your toughest challenge?

Having a mix of characters in my head on a daily basis is something I love! Getting to know readers, and receiving amazing messages from them is beyond words. Also getting to know other authors who can share tips, and advice. They understand that having ten characters talking to you in your head is NOT crazy, and I love that. Ha. My toughest challenge is trying to stay off Facebook when I have chapters to finish!

Staying away from Social Media is difficult for an author. It can be time consuming, but it’s also a great way to market a book.

Talking about social media, can you  please list your social media links, website, blog, etc. so readers can connect with you.

Thank you for having me, Debbie!

My pleasure, Lilly. Best wishes on your new release and all the Mr. Parks books and those that follow.
