Welcome to the Limitless Library Lounge where I interview fellow authors from Limitless Publishing. Today, I am chatting with Alisha Vincent (pen name A. L. Vincent) from Lafayette, Louisiana.
Thanks for joining me, Alisha. Please have a seat and make yourself comfortable.
How long have you been publishing with Limitless? What titles have you published with them? Have you self-published any titles or published with another publisher? Please give details.
I signed my contract with Limitless in August of 2015. Tangled up in You is my first published book.
How exciting. Can you tell us a little bit about your books — what genre you write, if you write a series, any upcoming releases or your current work-in-progress.
I write romance. What I consider reality romance. It’s characters that face real life situations like an alcoholic husband and issues like soldiers coming back with PTSD. My current WIP is about a tough young woman dealing with the after effects of being roofied by the lead singer in the band in which she is a member. She, like the character in my first novel, comes home to the safety of her friends and family to find peace and healing.
Interesting. Would you describe your goals as a writer to us. What do you hope to achieve in the next few years? What are you planning to do to reach these goals?
I want to keep writing. Eventually, I want to be able to write full-time. In the next few years, I’m hoping to add more titles to the Fleur de Lis series. I’m also planning a Paranormal series set in a haunted hotel in New Orleans.
Oooh, that sounds really good. What type of reader are you hoping to attract? Who do you believe would be most interested in reading your books?
I’m hoping to attract readers that are interested in uplifting stories about people who overcome obstacles and find what they’re looking for.
I’m sure there is a big audience for that topic.
What advice would you give other authors or those still trying to get published?
KEEP WRITING!!! KEEP TRYING!!! J Join Facebook critique groups. Get your work out there, seen, edited, and keep going.
Excellent advice.
What particular challenges and struggles did you face before first becoming published?
Writing a novel is hard! I found so many things challenging, like pacing, timelines, and getting the right words down on paper to get my idea across.
That is so true. I don’t think people know what it’s like to write a novel until they do it. And, even after you’re published, it doesn’t get easier because then you have to sell your work.
What hobbies and interests do you have besides writing?
Cooking, traveling, reading, live music, and all things South Louisiana.
I’m sure all of that keeps you busy when you aren’t writing.
What do you like most and least about being an author? What is your toughest challenge?
I love being able to make stories come alive. What I like least? Editing. Lol. I wish my words would just come out like they’re supposed to!
Editing certainly is a challenge to all authors.
Can you please list your social media links, website, blog, etc. so readers can connect with you.
